À Deriva - Fernando Nogueira
A Deriva is a contemporary circus creation for public space centred around an unstable, mobile and vulnerable Chinese pole that constantly challenges both the body’s balance and the space itself. Through swings, suspensions and shifting movements, a solitary body crosses a fragile territory, oscillating between risk and rest, resistance and surrender.
In a world shaped by constant acceleration, hyperconnectivity and an increasing difficulty in truly inhabiting the present moment, the performance proposes a rare gesture: to stop. To listen. To remain. Blending into the living rhythm of the city and the flow of passers-by, A Deriva does not interrupt public space, it quietly and sensitively infiltrates it, like an unexpected pause within everyday excess.
Traditionally rigid and vertical, the Chinese pole becomes here a transforming organism. It moves, wavers and adapts. Its instability becomes a metaphor for a contemporary condition in which everything feels temporary and balance demands constant presence. As the performance unfolds, the audience gradually shifts from mere observers to active participants within the environment of the work, through a collective process of proximity, recognition and belonging.
With a minimalist aesthetic and a non-verbal dramaturgy, A Deriva creates a sensory experience around solitude, vulnerability and the need for human connection. More than a performance, it is a suspended space within the noise of the world.
