ASTRAT
“abstract” in Piedmontese
A white space, empty. A person dressed in white arrives with geometric objects, also white. Launched and relaunched, they float gently in space. It’s surprising, sometimes funny, hypnotic, maybe even “poetic.” Electronic sounds resonate. Little by little, light transforms this monochrome universe: the white gets colored, the shadows mix, the objects change appearance. The juggler speaks for a moment, tells something about juggling, tries a joke. No one laughs. We continue.
You have just passed through an ASTRAT sequence.
ASTRAT is a show that thinks juggling as an abstract art, in the sense of visual arts: a sensitive composition of shapes, colors, sounds, rhythms and movements. Here, the story and the figure of the circassian give way to physical objects and phenomena. The technique becomes the result of an exploration of the relationships between the body, matter, gravity, light or geometry.
The objects, built especially for the show, have unique qualities: transparent, iridescent, luminous, floating, or simply “rather funny anyway”. Different kinetic and juggling scenes follow one another, gradually pushing the juggling towards the highest degree of abstraction known in 2026 (wow).
But then, what is the show about? Not really “of something”. Even if the juggler sometimes speaks up, he’s never the center. As in a gallery where some indications accompany the works, the show allows moments of simple and light exchange with the audience: pauses to share certain reflections, open up avenues or let questions arise.
ASTRAT does not seek to convey a clear message. Above all, it offers an experience to watch, feel and pass through. Ambiguity is at the heart of the project: leave room for doubt, curiosity and beauty.
