圓子習慣 Get Used to Being Yuan-Zi
One day, Yuan-Zi was born in a corner of the world.
The first thing she learned to do was breathe; the second was to cry.
For the next thirty-plus years, she dedicated herself to learning how not to.
Fall off her bike? Don't cry.
Get punished? Don't cry.
Feel wronged and swallowed by quiet indignity? Still, don't cry.
When an imaginary journalist asked why she fought so hard to hold back her tears, she replied, “Because whoever laughs last, wins—and Yuan-Zi never loses.”
In an age where every bestseller preaches the gospel of becoming a success—
Hmph. Yuan-Zi made it long ago.
She has long been a successful, whole, and complete Yuan-Zi.
Now, she just needs to get used to being this version of herself:
Used to watching everyone march down the long road of life, chanting, “Forward! Forward!”—while she bursts out laughing at the GPS as her destination recedes, all because she misread a sign.
Used to seeing everyone curate their rich, bustling lives on social media, while she stays home experimenting with how long a human can avoid standing up without ruining a perfectly wonderful day.
Yuan-Zi isn't used to it yet—but she will be.
Yuan-Zi isn't content yet—but she will be happy.
This performance co-creates by theatre director/playwright Ya-Rou Chen and choreographer/dancer Ya-Yuan Chang, this piece springs from everyday, mundane fragments of text to explore how physical movement and deconstructed language can resonate with the written word. Drawing from the drives behind our "pursuit of success," the performance evolves into a comedy laced with a playful, circus-like physicality.
