The performance is the culmination of a five-day masterclass led by performer Eliška Brtnická, who has long been engaged in artistic research within the field of contemporary circus.
It builds on Eliška’s performance Thin Skin and further develops the use of otherwise disposable metal material. Bent iron rods form a landscape into which the body organically immerses itself and becomes part of it. Each object has a different shape, no two are alike—just as no two bodies are the same. The uniqueness of each form recalls the originality of every human being. What emerges is a complex living organism, a physical installation in which impulses for movement come from both directions: we can see the object manipulated by the body, but also the body manipulated by the object. Thus, the boundaries between the two dissolve. The world is one—everyone can influence, and everyone is influenced.
All Shapes draws on movement techniques inspired by dance, aerial and ground acrobatics, and object manipulation. It is not a demonstration of skills, but rather the use of these techniques as tools for exploring a new artistic language and expression.
The performance is presented within the Circus Nights Project, with the support of the Prague City Hall and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
