Sinking Sideways

Three acrobats repeat the same sequence of movements hundreds of times — based on the fundamental pattern of three-ball juggling. Within this uninterrupted flow of motion, countless variations begin to emerge. The higher the stakes become, the more the performers navigate different forms of togetherness while standing on the edge of the (stage) abyss. A hypnotic pull and a masterpiece of dance acrobatics.

ON THE EDGE festival for experimental circus arts
November 4–13, 2026

Where circus questions its own rules. Ten artists and collectives from Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Estonia, and France demonstrate just how diverse contemporary circus can be today. Juggling meets installation art, trapeze acrobatics meets concert, acrobatics meets queer storytelling, and tap dance meets performance.
With four invited productions, ON THE EDGE 2026 also places a special focus on Switzerland’s innovative contemporary circus scene. What connects them all?

A passion for experimentation. The artists push boundaries, challenge traditional circus techniques, and open up new perspectives on physicality, risk, and virtuosity—through the interplay of dance, theater, music, and visual arts. A festival for everyone who wants to rediscover the circus.
