This weekend, we also want to look back at the historical predecessors of this practice and the traces they left behind. The starting point is the book “Circus Art in Berlin around 1900 – Insights into a Forgotten Practice” (2024). It brings together numerous photographs published for the first time, excerpts from correspondence, patent specifications, press reports, construction drawings, and other documents from that period. Together, we want to ask: How can circus sources from the archive enter into dialogue with the circus of the present?
To this end, we have selected a few archival items as examples and invite all interested parties to make their own connections to the archive. Please feel free to bring a document or object to the workshop that you associate with the circus or the performing arts in general.
